Beatus Vir – Sacred Music Festival Anima Mundi Pisa
UncategorizedAt the Gonzaga court, Monteverdi was first called as a violist: at the time instrumental music played a pivotal role in the Mantua palaces. Upon the arrival of the Cremonese master, the scene was already dominated by some top-tier musicians: among them Salomone Rossi, who also was a prominent figure in the city’s Jewish community. As colleagues and collaborators, the two masters’ styles and musical language influenced each other throughout the years.
This Beatus Vir varied programme ehmphasises the connection between the two composers, in a play of refined cross-references between some sonatas out of Rossi’s Quarto Libro and some of the most celebrated of Monteverdi’s pieces out of the Selva morale e spirituale, in which the choir will perform compositions for 2, 6 up to 8 voices.
The concert will wrap up with the first official performing of Gabriele Caselli’s Ubi caritas et amor, winner of the 12th edition of the Anima Mundi Composition Competition for contemporay sacred music.
The event is occasion for a welcome return by Costanzo Porta & Cremona Antiqua to the Sacred Music Festival Anima Mundi in Pisa, at its 19th edition, scheduled September 7th-20th, 2019. A seven dates series which establishes Daniel Harding’s artistic direction, in its second year, after the years long entrusting to Sir John Eliot Gardiner, starting 2006. The seven concerts will take place alternately in the always enchanting backdrops of Pisa’s Cathedral and Monumental Camposanto.
